Born in Barcelos (Portugal), he graduated in Guitar at Porto’s Escola Superior de Música e das Artes do Espectáculo, studying with José Pina.
He has attended several masterclasses with guitarists such as Alberto Ponce, David Russel, Manuel Barrueco, Roberto Aussel, Eduardo Isaac and Leo Brouwer.
In 1988 he won the 1st Prize (Higher Level of the Guitar Category) at the Portuguese Competition Juventude Musical Portuguesa, and in 1994 he was awarded an Honorable Mention at the Helena Costa Prize (Portugal).
In his solo activity, he has provided a special attention to contemporary guitar music. As to his chamber music activity, he has worked namely with Portuguese flutist Luís Meireles. It is also worth mentioning his duo with portuguese guitarist Maria Paula Marques, with whom he has been pursuing a project of Portuguese original works for two guitars dedicated to them, presented namely at the International Guitar Festival in Hallein 2011(Austria) and at the XVIII Festival Internacional de Guitarra de Santo Tirso (2011). He is also a member of the 5G5C “Portugal Guitar Quintet”. He has been playing in a variety of events/concert-halls, such as the Fundação de Serralves, Teatro Rivoli, Casa das Artes do Porto, Festival de Música do Palácio da Bolsa, Festival Internacional dos Encontros de Guitarra do Porto, Casa da Música, Teatro do Campo Alegre,Fundação Eng.º António de Almeida, Festival Internacional de Música Logomúsica, Museu Alberto Sampaio (Guimarães), Teatro Municipal (Serpa), Teatro S. Luís (Lisboa), São João da Madeira’s Guitar Competition, Festival de Guitarra de Braga, Guitarrismos VI (Vilar do Paraíso), Festival de Música Cidade de Almada, Festival Chitarristico Internazionale “A. Montovani” em Follonica (Itália), Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga (Lisboa), 11º Festival Internacional de Música da Primavera de Viseu. He has recorded also for television (RTP) and radio (Antena 2). He has conducted several Guitar masterclasses and has been a jury member at Guitar competitions. Currently, he has been editing and publishing original Portuguese pieces for solo guitar dedicated to him, from several Portuguese composers. He currently teaches at Porto’s Conservatory of Music.
